ᛉ The Rune of Protection & Guardianship

From the ancient language of the runes comes Algiz, a powerful symbol of guardianship, vigilance and spiritual protection.

Part of our Elder Futhark Runic Spell Candle Collection, this striking seven-day candle has been created in honour of Algiz (ᛉ), a rune widely associated in contemporary runic practice with protective energies, the strengthening of personal boundaries and the safeguarding of sacred spaces.

Algiz is often envisioned as a figure standing with arms raised towards the heavens, or as the spreading branches of a tree reaching upwards while its roots remain firmly anchored in the earth. It is a symbol of watchfulness, strength and the connection between earthly stability and higher guidance.

In magical practice, Algiz is traditionally worked with in modern rune-based protection rituals to establish energetic boundaries, ward against unwanted influences and encourage a sense of spiritual security.

The Magic of Algiz ᛉ

This candle is particularly suited to:

• Spiritual Protection: Working with protective intentions and warding against unwanted energies.
• Guardianship: Calling upon the symbolism of Algiz to safeguard the home, altar and sacred space.
• Energetic Boundaries: Strengthening personal boundaries and reinforcing one’s spiritual sovereignty.
• Vigilance & Awareness: Encouraging discernment, intuition and awareness of the energies around us.
• Ritual & Spellwork: Incorporating the protective symbolism of the Elder Futhark into personal magical practice.

An Ancient Rune, An Original Incantation

The candle features an original protection incantation, written especially for MoonChild Spiritual Emporium and inspired by the protective character of Algiz.

The spell draws upon the imagery of raised branches, deep roots and watchful skies, reflecting the rune’s modern associations with guardianship, stability and spiritual defence.

The incantation is printed directly onto the front label, allowing it to be read aloud as part of a personal protection ritual or contemplated during candle meditation.

An Old-World Runic Design

Presented in a striking 21 cm tall seven-day glass candle jar, Algiz features a dramatic, antique-inspired design reminiscent of a weathered stone inscription discovered within an ancient practitioner’s sanctuary.

The central Algiz rune appears deeply engraved into aged stone, surrounded by intricate ornamental detailing, celestial symbolism and distressed antique-gold accents.

The jar is finished with aged cord wrapping around both the upper and lower sections, lending it the appearance of a timeworn ritual artefact.

A decorative pentacle wax seal, individually highlighted with metallic gold, completes the design.

Infused with a rich Black Opium fragrance, Acorus Calamus Root, Nettle Leaf Powder, Black Agate and Clear Quartz Crystal Chips,  this candle brings a dark, atmospheric presence to the altar, ritual space or witchcraft collection.
